My kite bag
I love flying stunt kites, so my bag is just full of kites from superlight kites which can be even flown indoor to ventilated kites, which are great to fly when it real stormy. Stunt kites means to my that I can do tricks with the kites. So you wont find any “powerkites” or foils here. These powerkites and foils are great getting pulled over the field or for buggy or kitesurf usage, but thats a completly different world.
SuperUltraLight Indoor Kites
Name: Sweety
Manufactor: Drachenkiste Siebert
I really like the sweety. Its a perfect kite when starting to learn indoor kiting. There is no other choice when you see the low price, the perfect quality of the kite. There are some other so called Indoor kites in the pricearound below 100 Euro’s, but they are not flying well.
For outdoor kiters this is a real No-Wind-Killer … so when really no one believes that a kite can fly … the sweety brings a smile on your face.
When flying indoor, I use 25 DaN (around 50#) and 4.5 to 5 meter lines. Outdoor the sweety can be flown with 25 DaN/50# lines with 15-20 meters.
Name: ITrix
Manufactor: Drachenkiste Siebert
Yeah! The ITrix ( a morph of the Words: It Trix’es, Indoor Trix, I (am) Trix-ing ) is my absolute favourite when it comes to advanced indoor kiting!. The kite is a bit smaller than the Sweety and is not a good kite for indoor kiting starters. But this kite does have a great indoor precision and tracking. It does nearly all indoor and outdoor tricks, which is absolutely stunning. You can do fade overheads, which is only possible with real indoor kites but you can do cometes and jacobs ladders too :-)
The ITrix is completely designed by myself, so this descrition is a bit biased ;-) . I’m flying the ITrix with 4,5 to 5,5 meter lines with 25 daN/50# strength.
Outdoor Competition Kites
Name: Nirvana
Manufactor: R-Sky
The Nirvana was my big step into the competition kiting. I learned to fly on long lines(from 35 to 50 meters), which allows to fly very nice figures in the sky, but even on these long lines, the trickability of the Nirvana is like a dream. You just can’t overgrow the kite, which is superb when you start building your kite set.
Collecting your kite set means that you try to get kites which allows you to fly from nearly no wind up to very strong winds. Naturally you can’t do that with just one kite, so you need a kite which fits to the current wind. Best is when you have a kite that fits to you and you can get that kite in different versions, so that one design fits from low wind to storm.
Thats possible with the Nirvana and even better: the kite does the same precision and trickability, regardless of the windspeeds.
Name: WSO
Manufactor: Drachenkiste Siebert
The WSO is my competition set when it comes to precision kiting and sharp cornering. You really need something like the WSO when you are flying in the competition and you are flying figures. Thats one of the very important parts, regardless if you are flying in the AKA challenge or in the STACK challenges. The WSO is flying very straight and clean and makes precision kiting very easy.
If you are new to kiting, even then it’s good to learn with such a beauty like the WSO. The kite flys slow, very controllable and you really learn how to do it right.
Outdoor Quad Line Competition Kites
Name: Revolution 1.5 SLE
Manufactor: Revolution Kites
The Revolution 1.5 SLE is a four line kite, which is very gentle kite which good precision and slow speeds. The kite is flyable in light as in strong winds is always very controllable.
Name: Kamikaze-Butterfly
Manufactor: Drachenkiste Siebert ( But the designer is Robert Jung )
The Kamikaze Butterfly is is complete opposite of the Rev 1.5. The V-form leading edge, which is independent movable, and the contruction of the sailshape, framing and bridle makes this kite absolutely unique. It can be flown extremly fast, but in the same way you can fly super precise and gently.
I’m very happy to have a kamikaze, since the kite was out of production. Robert Jung, the designer of the kite was building the kite in his spare time only and after job changes he doesn’t had the chance to continue building them. Luckily Robert Jung contacted Wolfgang Siebert who is renowned for his superb manufactoring qualities and hand the kite over to let the kamikaze butterfly to build by him.
