What is Indoor Kiting ?
Indoor Kites are ultra light kites, which can fly at extreme light winds. The needed wind in the sail is so less, that walking backwards the only movement to bring these kites up into the air.
So why are these kites go inside of sports halls and fabrics to kite, when they can fly everywhere on the green out there ?
First of all, these kites are that light, that they normally don’t like any outdoor wind. So when you go inside of a sports hall, you have the perfect wind condition: No Wind :-).
When you normally fly outdoor, you have wind coming from the back and a wind window of around 120 degrees, where you can fly. When you fly indoor, where you go backward to get wind into your kites sail, you have a wind window of 360 degree. So you can fly all around you if you like. This makes indoor kiting very creative and amazing.
I’m not living at the seaside and have often changing winds and I have to choose between many kites to find one, which is capable of the current winds. If I want to learn some new tricks, I have to hope that the wind is correct for the kite I have with me and so one. Flying Indoor is far easier, since the Environment is always the same and you can train your skills on a regular base. Additionally I can be absolutly happy with one kite, which will be fine day by day.
As you know from outdoor kiting, there are many different kind of kites. Most kites are classified in the amount of lines you use to control the kite. Most popular are one, two liners and the four or also called quad line kites. You will find the same in the indoor scene. In Europe many kiters a fly two line stunt kites and quad line kites (Mostly homebuild kites, which look similar to the Revolution kites). But there is also a small group of one line indoor-kites and this scene is growing too.
