ITrix Weight Tuning

Now after many weeks with flying the ITrix we found out that the ITrix does have a huge potential to weight tuning.

Of course weightings on indoor kites do have extreme effects, you have to be very precise in choosing the right weight and the correct position on the kite.

How to

The optimal weighting the the litte ITrix is 6 gram on the spine. You can not glue them anywhere on the tail, because the kite would loose its ballance completly.

ITrix Gewichtstuning

As usual I’m using a pin from the unused IKEA bookshelf “IVAR” (But you can order these pins directly at IKEA in a 30-pack). Theses pins each weight around 8 grams. So its needed to cut of around 1/4 of the lenght (0,9 cm) to get to 6 grams.

Now glue the 6 gram pin on the the spine with a fabric tape. The exact position is 8,7 cm from the center tee or 7,3 cm from the keel bottom.

Based on the taste of the flier and the exact weight of the used pin the kite needs to be test flown now and need minor adjustments.

Is the used weight heavier: Move (max 2 cm) up to the center tee.
Is the used weight lighter: Move (max 1,5 cm) to the bottom of the spine.

Is the weighting effect to strong or feels too out of balance: Move (max 2 cm) up to the center tee.
Is the weighting effect to minor: Move (max 1,5 cm) to the bottom of the spine.

Conclusion

The ITrix now allowes very easy backspins and all other rotations are more dynamical. Of course every kite lose a bit of performance when its heavier, but this can be counteract by the flier easily.

All kind of Axel-to-Fade tricks are easier now, because the kite locks now into the fade. Fade-over-head tricks need a bit more pulling energy from the flier.

Outdoor ?

The ITrix is an indoor only kite, so that I have no experience with the kite outdoor at extremly light winds. I assume that this little modification will make the kite more stabile outside and tricks will be easier. Eventually, when you fly the kite mostly outdoor, its better to even use 8 grams of weight.

If you want to share and kind of experiences with the ITrix, I’m happy to hear from you.
