Drachenkiste Sweety Modifications
More Response in Tricks and Outdoor Flying
The following conversion gives your Sweety more dynamic in the tricks and much more response when flying outdoor. The kite is still fully indoor flyable, but looses a bit of performance which can be counteract by walking faster.
As you know the Sweety Kites framing is all 4mm Avia Sports and a spine of 5mm Exel or 5mm Avia Sports carbon tube.
After several experiments with 4.5 mm, 5mm Avia Sports, 5mm Structil overall I found a very nice variant, which makes the sweety not too heavy, but the kite gains much more response and stiffness in the tricks.
Just exchange the lower spreader with a 5mm structil or 5mm avia sports carbon tube. Be aware that you have to replace the connectors in the leading edge for this conversion to tiny-apa connectors, so that the 5mm lower spreader will fit.
This new lower spreader is not bending so much, so you have to cut the standoffs a bit so that the sail do have the right form.
So you need:
125 cm x 5 mm Avia Sports Carbon Tube or 125cm x 5 mm Structil Carbon Tube
2 x tiny apa leading edge/spreader connector ( Leading Edge 4mm, Spreader 5mm )
2mm standoff-carbon
(Buy additional 2x tiny apa 4mm/4mm if you can’t remove the upper spreader connectors from the leading edge without destroying them!)
4 x JACO Standoff holder (spreader side)
The new standoffs have the following lenght:
inner standoff: 17,5 cm
outer standoff: 16,5 cm
The upper bridle must be shortend a little bit, when you fly indoor.
If you have never made such a conversion, you should not do it! Ask someone who have experience in kite building, because the conversion is not that easy as it looks for a novice flyer. I will not take any response if you break or destroy your kite.
If you think about buying a new Sweety, ask Mr. Siebert/Drachenkiste if they can build the kite already with that modification. I believe thats no problem for him. I will publish a photo of a converted Sweety soon.
